DR. NATARAJA RAMAKRISHNA
On the occasion of "PURASKAARAMS - 2010", Dr. Ramineni Foundation is honoured to felicitate renowned Natyacharya Dr. Nataraja Ramakrishna with the Visishta Puraskaaram which consists of a memento, shawl, citation and cash award of Rs. One Lakh.
Dr.Nataraja Ramakrishna, a Natyacharya par excellence, a dedicated dancer,
an assiduous researcher, an erudite scholar and innovative choreographer, is an honoured name in the field of Classical Indian Dance. He has been single handedly responsible for the resuscitation and rejuvenation of "Andhra Natyam" and "Perini Sivatandavam", two ancient dance forms of Andhra Pradesh which were virtually extinct, and the resurrection of Kuchipudi.
Born on March 21,1923 in the idyllic islands of Bali to Smt. Damayanthi Devi and Sri R. Mohan Rao of Razole, West Godavari District, A.P., Dr. Ramakrishna was drawn inexorably towards dance at an early age and was formally trained by Nayudupeta Rajamma initially and the illustrious Kuchipudi Guru Sri Vedantam Laxminarayana Sastry later on in his career.
He studied the ancient texts of Natya Shastra and embarked on a thorough research of classical and folk art forms of Andhra Pradesh. His diligent research and scholarly efforts culminated in the reinvigoration of "Nava Janardhana Parijatam", a dance form prevalent earlier in the temples of East Godavari district, and the reconstruction of the vigorous, virile Saiva dance form "Perini Sivatandavam", prevalent in the 10th century Kakatiya dynasty.
Over his long career of more than sixty years, he has trained many dancers in India and abroad and has choreographed highly acclaimed dance dramas like "Kumara Sambhavam", "Mega Sandesam", etc. He has authored over 60 scholarly treatises on all forms of Andhra dance. His untiring and unceasing efforts to focus the spotlights on the rich dance traditions of Andhra Pradesh has resulted in him being honoured with "Padmashri" by the Govt. of India, with "Bharat Kala Prapoorna" by AP Sangeet Natak Academy, with "Kala Prapoorna"- an honorary doctorate by Andhra University, with "Hamsa Award" and "NTR Puraskar" by A.P. Govt., amongst other honours.
Were it not for Dr. Nataraja Ramakrishna's dedication and devotion, the hoary spiritual dance forms of Andhra Pradesh would have been a dead art buried deep in the chronicles of history.

SRI SUTHIVELU
On the occasion of "PURASKAARAMS - 2010", Dr. Ramineni Foundation is honoured to felicitate Sri Suthivelu , popular film comedian, with the Visesha Puraskaaram
which consists of a memento, shawl, citation and cash award of Rs. Fifty Thousand.
Sri Kurumaddali Laksmi Narasimha Rao, popularly known as Suthivelu, is an extremely popular South Indian film comedian and character artiste, having acted in more than 200 films. His sense of timing, dialogue delivery and emotive expressions has continuously endeared him to the avid movie goers and he has ruled the roost as a comedian, especially in Telugu movies, since 1980.
Suthivelu was born on August 9th, 1950 in Chennai and his father was a teacher with interests in dramatics. This rubbed off on young Suthivelu, who naturally developed a strong affinity towards acting. He gave stage performances at the tender age of 7 years and, inspite of his father’s dissuasion; he decided to take up acting as a profession. Formal education was obviously not his forte and, inspite of natural handicaps like an ordinary personality and a normal voice, he wholeheartedly plunged into acting. During his early days he was as lean as a slender finger, which earned him the sobriquet “Velu” from his neighbour, Jaanakamba. After the tremendous success of his screen character “Suthi” in the highly successful and acclaimed movie “Naalugu Sthambalata”, he was affectionately called as “Suthivelu” by movie buffs and the film fraternity ever since. His pairing with Suthi Veerabhadra Rao was so popular that people called them the Suthi brothers.
Over the years, Suthivelu has left an indelible impression in any role essayed by him. Tired frowns have transformed into unbridled laughter on watching his onscreen comic capers and hilarious histrionics, spreading radiant happiness and abundant joy all around.
Today, Suthivelu is happily married to Laksmi Rajyam and is blessed with four children.
